All our motorhomes are safe and secure, with plenty of room for your dog in our pet-friendly models. Whilst in transit, you must keep your pet suitably restrained: this could involve a small cage or attaching your dog via a harness. 

If your dog is unrestrained, you get charged with Careless and Inconsiderate Driving. Luckily, our pet-friendly motorhomes have all the amenities you need to keep your furry friend safe while you’re on the go.

What do I need to consider when taking a pet in a motorhome?

Before you decide to take your pet on a motorhome holiday, there are some things you need to consider. To help you make an informed decision, we have listed three main factors you should consider when hiring a pet-friendly motorhome: 

1. Size and Space

First, you need to consider the size of your pet compared to the pet-friendly motorhomes you have to choose. Smaller dogs, such as Chihuahuas, Corgis or Shih Tzus, will fit comfortably in a smaller motorhome. 

However, if you have a large dog, like a German Shepherd or a Rottweiler, you need to consider how this will affect the space you and your passengers have to get around. We ask that you keep your pets off the seats of our pet-friendly motorhomes. 

You must decide where you will put your dog’s bed and ensure they are comfortable: doing this in advance will help them acclimatise and feel safer in the motorhome. 

1. Rules of Campsites 

Once you have finished your long journey, you must park your motorhome at a campsite for the night. Before you book, double-check that they permit pets and remember to follow their rules.

Most campsites in the UK and Europe welcome dogs but require that you keep them on a leash at all times. If you have a nervous dog, perhaps it’s best to book with a campsite that has a designated ‘quiet’ section. 

As campsites are close to nature, there will be plenty of places you can take your dog to stretch its legs. Whether you are near a local nature trail or the coast, choosing the perfect campsite will make all the difference for your pet. 

1. Safety! 

Under no circumstances should you leave your dog unattended in your motorhome. If the weather is warm, your motorhome may heat up and cause distress for your animal. Likewise, they may bark while you are away and disturb other pitchers.

Involve your dog in all the activities you can to minimise their anxiety. After all, a motorhome holiday is for everyone to enjoy!

How can I keep my pet happy in a motorhome? 

While we’re sure your pet will be grateful to be with you and not stuck at home, they may still feel anxious. Especially if your dog has never been in a vehicle before, you will need to help them get used to their new environment. 

Make sure to bring yummy treats for when your pet is well-behaved. After all, holidays are all about luxury! Bring all their food and a water bowl from home, and pack their bed or cage to remind them of home. 

Bring a harness to anchor your pet inside the vehicle while in transit. You will also need to take an adjustable lead so your pet can walk around the campsite safely. Remember any medication your dog may need so you don’t have to make a long journey home. 

Lastly, and most importantly, take pooh bags! Your dog will not be using the loo, so take a large selection of pooh bags and avoid being fined by the local authority or campsites.

If you are searching for a fully stocked, modern and spacious motorhome for yourself, the pets and your family to enjoy, choose the Zefiro 696. 

But what if your family is large and growing by the minute? Well, you can select our 6 Berth Zefiro 675. This vehicle can sleep up to 6 people, including your best four-legged friend. 

With rear-fixed bunk beds, a fully fixed kitchen and a spacious garage area, you won’t be short of room in this modern model. Its overhead storage cabinets are perfect for conserving space so your dog can wander around the motorhome to its heart’s content. 

No matter which of our motorhomes you choose, a £50 surcharge is added to your bill: this is simply to cover the extra cleaning costs.
